Entry Guidelines

Deadline for Entry: December 5th-December 9th, 2022
Only new and original works inspired by the theme: Show Your Voice! will be accepted. Enter in one or more categories.  All students must adhere to the General Student Participation Rules, as well as the rules for their specific arts category.
All entry forms must be signed by student and parent (unless student is over 18).

AGE DIVISIONS

To allow student artworks to be recognized and judged with the appropriate developmental age and skill levels in mind, the Reflections Program is organized by school grade.

Primary: Preschool – Grade 2
Intermediate: Grades 3 – 5
Middle/Junior: Grades 6 – 8
Senior: Grades 9 – 12
Special Artist Division – Non-Graded


Individual Categories:

FILM PRODUCTION – Rules – Film Production
Animation • Narrative • Documentary • Experimental • Media presentations
Original work of one student.
Not to exceed 5 minutes. Credit music used.
FORMAT Video: AVI, MOV, MPG, MPEG, WMV, FLV.
Maximum Upload File Size: 1GB (one gigabyte).
Record production on DVD or flash drive.

LITERATURE – Rules – Literature
Fiction or non-fiction • Prose, poetry, drama, song and lyrics.
Do not exceed 2000 words.
Grade appropriate grammar, punctuation and spelling.
May be illustrated, handwritten or typed.
Two copies: use 8.5 x 11” paper.

MUSIC COMPOSITION – Rules – Music Composition
Original Composition Voice, instrument(s), or a combination of voice and instrument(s).
Not to exceed 5 minutes.
FORMAT Audio Recording of Music Performance: MP3, MP4, WMA, WAV, ACC, FLAC. Record production on CD or flash drive.
Music notation is required for Middle and High School entries.
Lyrics are optional.

PHOTOGRAPHY – Rules – Photography
Color, Black and White, Photomontage, multiple exposure, negative sandwiches, and photograms.
No larger than 11” X 14” Including matting.
No thicker than 3/8”.
No frames. No slides or transparencies.

DANCE CHOREOGRAPHY – Rules – Dance Choreography
Original work of one student.
Not to exceed 5 minutes.
Credit music used.
FORMAT Video: AVI, MOV, MPG, MPEG, WMV, FLV.
Maximum Upload File Size: 1GB.
Record production on DVD or flash drive.

VISUAL ARTS – Rules – Visual Arts
Original print, drawing, painting, collage, photographic collage, metal etching or punch work, fiber work, or computer-generated artwork.
Dimensions of 2D works not to exceed 24 x30 including matting.
No frames.
Mount 2D artwork on a sturdy backing.
*Category expanded to include 3D works. Local unit rules apply. Must include three photos for each 3D entry.

SPECIAL ARTIST DIVISION – Rules – Special Artist Division
Disability as defined by Americans with Disability Act (ADA).
May enter in any category.

Student Entry Form must be signed by parent/guardian regardless of age.


STUDENT ENTRY FORM

Each student’s submission must include a completed and signed Student Entry Form. We have included an entry form for our local judging to download, please fill out, and include with your entry. Every entry requires a title and artist statement for judging and advancement to state. In your artist statement, tell us about your work and what it means to you.

  • What is your personal connection to the theme?
  • What did you use to create your work?
  • What was your inspiration?
